Celebrating One HundRed Years

On Thursday September 13th 2007 Lion Red turned 100 years old!

Lion Red, the quintessential kiwi beer, began life as the Pale Ale from the Great Northern Brewery, the year was 1907 – a great year for beer; an even better one for patrons. Over the last century, Lion Red has become a favourite for celebrating our successes and like any good kiwi, values good mates and good times.

Lion Red grew out of NZ’s pioneering past and is one of only a handful of New Zealand brands that is a true expression of what it means to be kiwi.

“Lion Red is an iconic NZ brand and as a celebration of this history we want to gather a collection of memorabilia which shows just how much Lion Red means to kiwis!” says Russell King, Lion Red Marketing Manager.

Lion Red has supported our sporting legends, from the rugby and league fields to the bowling green, from the deep blue of fishing tournaments to the endless summer of surfing competitions. The brand has played a part in keeping our communities safe by raising awareness for smoke alarms in preventing fire fatalities. It has amped up the local music scene by getting behind emerging bands and supported international acts to rock out at the annual Big Day Out. And at 100 years Lion Red’s still going strong!

All up, Lion Red is a kiwi classic. It marks the measure of our thirst for getting things done, working hard and having a great time doing it.
