Lion Red was again a proud sponsor of the Beach and Boat Competition, held on February 27-28 in Ruakaka. The Beach and Boat is NZ’s largest fishing competition, with over 2100 competitors entering this year’s event to battle for prizes including a Stabicraft Supercab and a Stabicraft Frontier. Strong winds and rain forced the cancellation of Saturday’s fishing, but a lot of good fish were caught on Friday. And what better way to unwind after a hard day’s fishing than with a great big party in the southern hemisphere’s largest marquee, located at the Ruakaka Motor Camp. Hosted by Pio Terei and Nic Brown from Radio Hauraki, the entertainment
included comedians Ewen Gilmour, Simon McKinney and Andre King, plus the mighty Hauraki Band. Best of all was the 2009 debut of the Lion Red Rockettes! The gorgeous Rockettes turned the heat up with their dance routines, and rewarded loyal drinkers with some great Lion Red merchandise. All in all it was an awesome event despite the rain. Congratulations to all the winners, and to all those who may not have come away with any prizes, but caught a few good fish, told a few good yarns and enjoyed a few cold Lion Reds with their mates.
